Rules and Information

Tournament Rules

1. Age: Open (Year 7 - 12)

2. IF ALL SCHOOLS PATICIPATE – then the tournament will be “first past the post” at the end of a Round-Robin format in which every school plays the other. At the end of the day the winning team will be the team with the most points based on: 3pts - win: 1pt - loss. If two teams are tied on points, the winner will be the team with the highest difference between sets won and lost. If still tied, the winner will be determined by the difference between points scored for and against. If teams are still even, the team that was victorious in the encounter between the two teams in dispute will be declared Tournament Champions.

3. IF ALL SCHOOLS DO NOT PARTICIPATE – there may be time for semis and/or finals. Schools will proceed to semis and/or finals based on the determinants mentioned in Point 2 above.

4. SEMIS: If teams are all tied at the end of normal time in a semi-final, 2 minutes extra time will be played. If teams are still tied the team finishing higher on the ladder after the round games will proceed to the Final.

5. FINAL: As for the Semi Finals, however if teams are all tied up at the conclusion of the 2 minute extra time, both teams will be declared joint winners.

6. Matches will be timed: 27 minutes total (ie, 25 minutes playing time ie 2 x 10 minute sets, then a 1 x 5 minute set. A 1 minute break between sets where teams change ends). There will be 3 minutes break between each round.

7. Scoring will be continuous up to the end of each set. If the siren to conclude a set sounds while a rally is being played the point WILL count at the conclusion of the rally.

Match Rules:

As per International Volleyball Rules with the following exceptions:

1. Serving - after 3 successful serves by one player, the team must rotate one position (clockwise). The next player in order then serves

2. Substitutions - can be made in rotation fashion ( ie Position 5 rotate off court and replacement enters at 4 (see diagram below) OR subs can be made at any position on court, however within each set, if a player has been replaced he/she can only return to court in place of the player who previously replaced him/her (injury excepted).

3. Time outs - each team is allowed ONE time out per set. (HOWEVER the clock does not stop). NO TIME OUTS allowed in the FINAL SET.

Teams:

1. Teams on court consist of no more than 6 players

2. Teams (including substitutes) are to consist of no more than 12 players

Uniforms: School Sports Uniform.

Referees: To be supplied by Manly Beach Volleyball School. There will be ONE central referee at each match.

Scoring & Line Duty: Non-playing schools will supply a scorer and/or line judges.
