BBSSSA Swimming Championships 2018

Wednesday, 21 Mar 2018 11:23 AM

The annual Broken Bay Swimming Carnival was held yesterday at SOPAC, Homebush.  The event ran very smoothly with some really strong participation levels especially from our junior and intermediate divisions.

Many thanks to Jenny Wickham and Linda Mezger from Stella Maris for their assistance with the event.

Some real highlights included:

  • The 8 students from St Edmunds who joined our multiclass swimmers in the 50m freestyle and 50m breastroke. Due to St Edmunds and increased numbers from our other schools, we managed to have 2 full heats of boys and girls in each discipline with an age champion being awarded in the male and female category - just brilliant. Due to the increased participation, we will include a multiclass backstroke event in the program for next year.
  • St Brigid’s claiming their first victory in a relay event and an age champion in Jarrod Kowalski!
  • 13 records being broken with some outstanding swimming from these students and relay teams. One of these records had been held since 1997 and was broken by Grace Michell from Mount St Benedict College in the Intermediate Girls, 200m Individual medley. Well done Grace!

Congratulations to all students that competed, some for the very first time in year 7. We hope you all had a really enjoyable day.
