NSWCCC Touch Championships 2018

Wednesday, 27 Jun 2018 2:10 PM

Under beautiful, crisp sunny skies, after a bout of terrible rain, the NSWCCC Touch Championships were held on Wednesday 20th June 2018 at The Kingsway Playing Fields in Werrington.

In true Broken Bay form, our teams performed so well with displays of highly skilled performances throughout the day.

Many thanks to our wonderful coaches and managers who have been with these teams for a number of years. Their guidance, enthusiasm and understanding of the game was tremendous.

Please find a report below for each of our teams. Congratulations to 15 of our players, for their selection into the NSWCCC Teams - a brilliant result for the Diocese.

Report for BBSSSA Open Boys Touch – 2018

Wednesday the 20th of June saw the Open Boys BBSSA Touch Football team compete at the NSW CCC Championships at the Kingsway, Penrith.

The weather gods were very kind as we saw sunshine, amidst days of rain. The boys were up against it from the start. With two late drop outs, and an early injury we only had 9 players for most of the day.

The boys showed incredible resilience and worked hard for each other for two wins in the round games. The majority of the tries scored against us on the day were scored with fresh speed against our tired legs.

A special shout out to Sam Edgeley who led by example and captained the team with strength and enthusiasm and to Sandon Smith who was outstanding on the day and was named in the NSW CCC team to compete later in the year.

Report for BBSSSA Open Girls Touch - 2018

The opens girls touch team had a successful 2018 tournament. The team, comprising of 12 highly talented and skilled players from the region were sensational. The team was captained by Jocelyn Kelleher and Teearna Langbridge. Throughout the rounds, the girls played some tough matches and worked together to remain undefeated throughout the rounds.

B.B. v Bathurst won 2-1

B.B. v Lismore won 1-0

B.B. v SCC won 4-0

B.B. v Newcastle won 3-0

B.B. v Parramatta won 3-2

Our defence was brilliant, and attack got better throughout the rounds.

This placed us in a semi final against CGSSSA. The girls gave absolutely everything and it was unfortunate we lost 2-0 as we were giving them everything we had.

I was really proud of the girls, they worked together and represented Broken Bay with such spirit and determination. We had so many great players who were worthy of selection for the NSWCCC team. Congratulations to the following girls who were selected Teearna Langbridge, Julia Zubek and Jade Pond. A big thanks to Jo Kelleher who managed the side.

The U/15 Broken Bay team had a very successful tournament in Penrith this year. It was a tough tournament and the girls worked well together and improved as a team every game. The team was captained by Lucy Dillon this year. There were some very close matches in the round games and the girls finished second in their pool with four wins and a draw:

Broken Bay vs Wagga – won 3-2

Broken Bay vs Canberra – won 6-0

Broken Bay vs Lismore – won 3-1

Broken Bay vs CGSSSA – draw 4-4

Coming into the finals second in their pool the girls played Parramatta who were first in theirs. It was a close match and the girls lifted again to win the semi 3-1. Coming up against Maitland/ Newcastle in the final, and playing their best game of the day they won 4-1. I was so impressed with the girl’s talent, attitude and team work. Congratulations to the following girls who made the NSWCCC team: Monique Dever, Lucy Dillon, Millie Durdevic, Zali Foulton and Emily Smith. Thankyou to Mark Feledy for managing the team this year.
